Mesquite Social Services (MSS) is one of the city’s oldest nonprofit organizations. The primary mission is “to provide immediate short term assistance with the basic and essential needs of those in our community and surrounding area.” A key role of MSS, which serves families throughout Mesquite and the surrounding areas, is to provide crisis relief assistance that is most often done by providing utility and rental/ mortgage assistance, operation of a food pantry, distribution of information and referrals, holiday assistance, and job referrals.
Sharing Life Community Outreach (SLCO) strives to assist families that are in need of life’s basic necessities. SLCO provides a food pantry, clothing closet, holiday program and financial assistance to the area’s needy families. Additionally, SLCO offers intangible support, such as educational programs and job skills training to help move families to a place of self-sufficiency, tools and support.
Mission East Dallas (MED) is a faith-based resource organization that provides acute medical, dental and social services, as well as spiritual counseling, for low-income or uninsured individuals and families. Services include urgent medical care in a family practice environment, health and wellness education, diabetes education, preventative care, social services, mammograms, access to affordable pharmaceuticals, and screening and application assistance for Medicaid and Project Access.
